3 Spring Events Expected to Erupt Fernandina Beach in Fun This Season

Amelia Island supplies an unending supply of amazing activities and events for visitors and locals. From the coast of the island to its historic district, known as Fernandina Beach, there is no shortage of things to do and planned cultural events to attend.

The spring season has kicked into full gear, and it’s time to let the flowers blossom and the exciting events erupt. Below are three Amelia island events right in the island’s famed Old Florida historic district. If you are debating how to spend the days of your next vacation getaway for the family, look no further.

Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival

The 55th annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival is expected to get the blood flowing, the energy kicking, and mouths salivating more than ever before. The event is over a half-century old, and it is only getting bigger.

The actual festival runs from May 4th to May 6th 2018. The Pirate Parade is on May 3rd, and it welcomes the shrimp participants to town with blistering pirate ship creations, local heroes, high school band participants, and more.

The history of the island is complexly interwoven with pirate culture, shrimping economies, competing nationalities, and art. The shrimp festival encompasses a nice mix of the Amelia Island history, ultimately covering how it became known as the “Town of Eight Flags.” The local shrimp industry is part of the history of what finally gave the island some ownership stability.

It seems that everyone can agree on shrimp being at the core of this event, as they are as fresh and delicious as it gets on Amelia Island! You’ll find plenty of them at the festival made to perfection, along with a range of other delicacies from local vendors.

The event will also feature antique vendors, local fine artisans, and a kid’s fun zone, filled with pirate activities.

The official designated “launch” location for the event is 102 Centre Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034. Everything will be unfolding right along Centre St. in a bombastic celebration of the new spring season and, of course, the tastiest seafood. The event, this year, is presented by the Baptist Medical Center Nassau.

Memorial Day Beach Street Party

On May 28th, downtown Fernandina Beach erupts in celebration of Memorial Day. The event is a collection of special live music showcases, discounts on drinks and food, sock hop dances, and fireworks. The events change every year.

You can come by for Memorial Day on Amelia Island to see the community light up. It is also a perfect time to visit the area for a look at the Amelia Island homes for sale. During spring, sales spike and many people are making big life changes for the upcoming fall.

Sounds on Centre

Sounds on Centre is not one event- it is many. During the First Friday of the month, from April through to October, everyone can enjoy some free music in the Fernandina Beach Historic District. The stage is set up at the corner of Second St and Centre St. The jam-friendly music is every first Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Raffle drawings and merchandise sales will be available. A special musical show will debut May 4th, to coincide with the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival.

All of the events are occurring right in the Fernandina Beach Historic District, along Centre St. The many cultural events year-round are one of the main reasons why the Amelia Island real estate is so sought after in the historic areas of Fernandina Beach.
